Polymers have been around us in the natural world from the very beginning (e.g., cellulose, starch, and natural rubber). Polymer materials are effective material that have rapidly increased in biological applications. Polymer materials possess an array of unique properties that make them useful in a wide range of biomaterial applications, such as orthopedics, dental, hard and soft tissue replacements, and cardiovascular systems. This book deals with the basic principles of polymer science, shows how polymer materials can be specifically designed to meet the needs of biomaterials, and provides examples of how this class of materials is currently used in medical applications.
