La production du liège dans la forêt Tamentout

Abstract

This dissertation examines cork production in the wilaya of Sétif, with a particular focus on the Tamentout forest. The findings indicate that production has undergone considerable fluctuations: the period 1996–2013 recorded significant growth, whereas in 2024 it declined due to several factors, mainly fires, diseases, and insufficient technical and organizational support. The study also highlights that current exploitation lacks sustainable management despite the significant economic and environmental value of cork. It concludes with the need to implement effective strategies, including modernizing exploitation and processing techniques, strengthening infrastructure and training, and opening up to international markets, in order to preserve cork oak forests and transform cork into a sustainable economic resource that supports local development.
