Abstract

The fundamental basics of patient care, during orthognathic surgery, have been well known for several years. This therapeutic treatment requires cooperation between orthodontist and surgeon from the orthodontic preparation stage until the retention period. Orthognathic surgery aims at the repositioning of the bone bases in the context of maxillomandibular dysmorphoses, these consequences are both aesthetic and functional. This jaw surgery has become common in our specialty. Its frequency has increased in recent years due to a more surgical vision of orthodontists, the best training of maxillofacial surgeons. Patient demand is also stronger. The main explanation for this is more systematic consideration of the functional parameters involved in the treatment, leading to multidisciplinary care. In this work, it is a question of treating the knowledge, the limits of orthodontics and dento-facial orthopedics, and the applications of the different techniques of the orthognathic surgery and the advantages and disadvantages of this surgery for the parte.
