Abstract

Therapeutic patient education (TPE) is an essential and innovative approach in managing chronic diseases, aiming to empower patients to take an active role in their treatment. This thesis explores the role of community pharmacists in implementing TPE, based on a survey conducted with patients and pharmacists. The results show that while pharmacists are generally aware of the importance of TPE, its practice remains limited due to several barriers, including the lack of regulatory framework, insufficient training and time, and limited institutional recognition. Nevertheless, respondents showed a strong interest in being more involved, provided that proper measures are implemented to support, supervise, and value this practice. This study highlights the urgent need to strengthen professional competencies, tools, interprofessional collaboration, and legislative frameworks to ensure effective integration of TPE in community pharmacy
