Abstract

Before fitting ophthalmic lenses, it is essential to check them and ensure that they meet quality standards. In this context, the application of the ISO 13666 standard plays a crucial role. The ISO 13666 standard is specifically designed to guarantee the quality and safety of ophthalmic lenses. It defines the technical specifications and test methods to evaluate various aspects of lenses, such as optical power, optical quality and many others. Similarly, the frames must also conform to high quality standards. Although ISO 13666 is specific to ophthalmic lenses, other standards such as ISO 12870 cover requirements for frames. These standards include testing for mechanical strength, dimensional stability and other aspects of frame quality. In our work, we were interested in the application of standards in the field of vision in Algeria, this very relevant field which affects the public health of the citizen, after my internship in a company I really understood the meaning of "the metrology is not obligatory”, because despite the efforts deployed in the investment in equipment and shaping, metrology remains absent in this field.
