Abstract

The objective of this work is to define briefly clay soils, to perceive the complexity of the "clay-water" system and approach the behavior of expansive soils and their interaction with Buildings. A retrospective analysis of a damaged structure (Sidi Aissa School, M‟sila) reflects the difficulty to appreciate the phenomenon of shrinking and swelling in clay soils. The validity of such classification methods of potentially expansive soils was related to the reliability of geotechnical testing often performed on remolded samples
