This thesis presents a study on the disinfection of tap water using UV-C LEDs (275 nm), conducted in Sétif, Algeria. The experimental device, consisting of two UV-C LEDs mounted on a stainless steel bottle and protected by a quartz plate, was tested on water samples before and after 180 seconds of exposure. Microbiological analyses targeted total bacterial counts (at 22 °C and 37 °C), total and fecal coliforms, fecal streptococci, and sulfite-reducing anaerobic bacteria (ASR), following standard methods (agar plates, MPN, specific media). The results showed complete elimination of total germs, fecal streptococci, and ASR, as well as a 60% reduction in total coliforms. These results, obtained under suboptimal conditions (LEDs operating at half power), confirm the potential of UV-C LEDs for small-scale potable water treatment.
