Abstract

Currentresearches shows thatpregnantwomen tend to recieveless dental care thanusualwhenthey are pregnant ,althoughPregnancyis a unique time in a woman’s life and ischaracterized by complexphysiological changes whichcanadversely affect oral healthduringpregnancy, and oral problemsencounterd in the pregenantwomen must beadressedproperly and promptly . The principal objective was to assessknowledge and awarenessregarding oral healthamongpregnantwomen in setif, and determine the role of prenatal and oral care providers in oral health. Amulticenter, descriptive study, adressed to pregnantwomen ,perinatal care providers and oral health care providers , Data werecollected by means of self-questionnaires. The presentreviewshowedthatpregnantwomen'sknowledge and awarenessregarding oral healthwaspoor. Most of the womenwereunaware of the potentialconsequences of neglecting oral and dental care duringpregnancy. Prenatalhealth providers lack the skills and knowledge to provide oral healthadvices to pregnantwomen and dentist practices werebelow the recommendedstandards . This studyhighlights the crucial rolethatcanplayperinatal care providers in breaking down barriers to access and raisingawareness about the importance of oral health . Thus, furthereducation and training in perinatal oral healthisneeded for perinatal care providers.
