Abstract
Enterobacteriaceae are one of the main families of Gram-negative bacilli responsible for
serious human infections. The present study was conducted with two main objectives: an
epidemiological aim and an evaluation of the resistance rates of enterobacteriaceae to
antibiotics. The frequency of isolated enterobacteria at the different services of the Setif’s UHC
is 54.20%. 2896 strains were collected during the study period (2015-2019) with a female
predominance (H/F = 0.85), 44.37% of strains were isolated from urinary tract samples, 21.92%
at infectiology unite, the most frequently identified species are: E coli (44.85%), Klebsiella
pneumoniae (22,48%), and Proteus mirabilis (9.74%). The surveillance of antibiotic
susceptibility revealed the emergence of strains resistant to the majority of antibiotics tested,
except for imipenema and amikacin. 726 strains (33.46%) are resistant to C3G and 60 strains
(2.12%) are resistant to carbapenems. Finally, regular monitoring of the number of cases and
mechanisms of resistance has become essential to define preventive strategies and more rational
use of antibiotics.
