| dc.description.abstract | Pressure ulcers are a common and serious complication in bedridden or mobilityimpaired patients. They result from prolonged pressure, leading to tissue ischemia and progressive impairment of the wound-healing process. Pressure ulcers represent a major public health concern due to their high prevalence, increased risk of infection, and significant impact on patients' quality of life. As part of improving the understanding of wound-healing mechanisms and exploring new therapeutic approaches, this study focused on the evaluation of an active oxygen-based product and its potential interest in the management of pressure ulcers. Oxygen plays a pivotal role in tissue repair through its involvement in cellular energy production, collagen synthesis, angiogenesis, and modulation of the immune response, making it an essential factor in the wound-healing process. The aim of this study was to evaluate the therapeutic potential of an active oxygen-based product, with particular emphasis on its antimicrobial activity and its ability to improve the local wound environment. This work was based on an experimental approach designed to evaluate the antimicrobial activity of the investigated product through in vitro microbiological assays, complemented by a review of the scientific literature regarding its potential role in the management of pressure ulcers. The results demonstrated that the active oxygen-based product exhibited antimicrobial activity against the bacterial strains tested, thereby contributing to the reduction of the bacterial burden associated with chronic wound infections. Furthermore, evidence from the literature highlights the important role of oxygen in tissue repair mechanisms. These findings suggest that an active oxygen-based product may represent a promising complementary approach in the management of pressure ulcers owing to its antimicrobial activity, while being integrated into a comprehensive therapeutic strategy that includes appropriate local wound care and pressure offloading. | |
