Abstract
Intermediate spaces in residential neighborhoods play an essential role as they provide a transition between private housing and public space, while contributing to the improvement of resident's quality of life .when well-designed and properly maintained, these spaces foster social interaction, strengthen the sense of belonging to the neighborhood, and support community cohesion.
However, in Algeria, these spaces suffer from several dysfunctions. They are often neglected due to flawed initial design: they were not planned based on studies adapted to the resident's needs or the specific urban and social context . this was the case of the city of 280 housing units in Bordj Bou Arreridj, which is largely underestimated by both designers and managers. Added to this is a chronic lack of maintenance, which accelerates their deterioration and leads to their disuse by residents These shortcomings have turned many intermediate spaces into downgraded areas, sometimes perceived as residual or useless spaces. Nevertheless, in recent years, there has been growing interest in revitalizing these spaces within the framework of urban redevelopment policies, with the aim of restoring their social, aesthetic, and environmental function for the benefit of residents and the neighborhood.
