Abstract

The world today is witnessing rapid economic and commercial transformations amid the deepening of globalization and the growing interconnection of markets, making the study of international trade and development an essential necessity for understanding the dynamics of the global economy, international economic relations, and their impact on paths of economic growth and sustainable development at the international, regional, and national levels. This publication represents a serious academic effort to present a comprehensive and in-depth perspective on the key concepts and issues related to international trade and its role in achieving development. It is intended for third-year undergraduate students in international economics who seek to deepen their theoretical and practical knowledge in this vital field. The publication covers a series of lessons addressing core topics, including the conceptual framework of economic growth and economic development, economic policies and development, trade liberalization policies, the role of international agreements and organizations in regulating trade exchanges, as well as the analysis of international trade trends and their relationship with economic development, with particular emphasis on the experiences of developing countries in leveraging trade as a driver of development. It also examines the contemporary challenges facing the international trading system, such as protectionism, international investment and its trends, integration into global trade and maximizing its benefits, and the impact of global value chains on trade patterns and development outcomes. The publication aims to equip students with analytical and methodological tools that enable them to understand the interactions between international trade and development trajectories through an approach that combines theoretical analysis with applied study, while encouraging critical and creative thinking in addressing contemporary economic issues. It also seeks to highlight how sound trade policies can contribute to inclusive growth and reduce development disparities among countries.
