Devenir des villes portuaires moyennes historiques : cas de JIJEL

Abstract

Algeria evolves in a mediterranean sphere and in ancient historical and cultural profundities. Thus, the culture accumulated during the ages continues to leave its marks in the everyday life of our society and deserves to be better known and preserved. In the light of the observations and analyses carried out over the case of JIJEL, a port town with a fairly profound historical substructure, it can be said that several factors have contributed to the genesis of this town. Among these, is the presence of the port and that of the sea, which have conferred economic potentials and true particularities on the region, as far as history, the living environment, the way of life and scenery are concerned. The aim of this thesis is to demonstrate that an efficient town planning of the historic port town implies: - The institution of specific and complementary town planning and urban design tools; - An appropriate land policy; - Promoting new activities, compatible with port activity. On an urban scale, many actions prove to be necessary notably: - The articulation of the historic center and the current town; - The re-allocation of the town which depends on the recovery and the redefinition of the intra-urban entities, namely the port and the sea front; - Promoting urban tourism by bringing improvements and revitalization of the historic center.
