Le rez-de-chaussée entre usage intime et vie urbaine. Réflexions sur îlot mixte au quartier les tours de Sétif

Abstract

In a rapidly changing urban context, ground floors play a fundamental role in the vitality of cities. In Sétif, these spaces are often underused, limited to utilitarian functions at the expense of their social, cultural, and economic potential. This thesis offers a reflection on new paradigms of housing by exploring the conditions of coexistence between housing, commerce, and other urban uses within ground floors. Based on case studies, site analysis, and local surveys, it highlights the importance of mixed-use blocks, spatial flexibility, and public/private interaction in designing these spaces. The architectural project developed aims to transform ground floors into active interfaces, integrating pedestrian pathways, meeting spaces, and architectural strategies that promote diversity of uses and social inclusion.
