Abstract

This course manual, titled *Introduction to Molecular Marker-Assisted Selection*, covers a core subject in the first semester of the academic Master’s program in Biotechnology and Plant Valorization (BVP) (2025/2026). It carries a coefficient of 3 and 6 credits, with a total course load of 67.5 hours (spanning 14–16 weeks), comprising two 1.5-hour lecture sessions and two 1.5-hour tutorial sessions per week. The course aims to provide a theoretical foundation for understanding genetics and molecular biology, as well as the significance of molecular markers in plant breeding and genetic diversity. To fully grasp the material, students require prior knowledge of genetic concepts—specifically quantitative genetics—and key principles of molecular biology. The course draws upon a wide range of disciplines, including molecular biology, quantitative genetics, plant breeding, and biodiversity. It is organized into four chapters, each featuring illustrative examples relevant to the subject matter.
