Abstract

Introduction: The misuse of drugs is becoming increasingly common. In recent years, new classes of previously unknown substances have appeared on the market, including pregabalin. Objectif: This work aims to optimize a UV/Visible spectrophotometric method for detecting pregabalin in urine. Material and Methods: This experimental study was carried out at the toxicology laboratory of Sétif University Hospital Center, between April and June 2024. Results: For sample pre-treatment, deproteinization with acetonitrile and NaCl was used, followed by treatment with a 1% ninhydrin solution. The UV/Visible spectrophotometric method was developed by maintaining a temperature of 73.5°C for 20 minutes in a water bath. Total sample analysis time was 30 minutes. This method showed satisfactory results in terms of sensitivity and specificity. However, the repeatability of results was inconclusive. Conclusion: Despite this, the method produced results consistent with the information provided by pregabalin users.
