Etude prospective sur le Syndrome Métabolique pendant la grossesse dans la région de Sétif

Abstract

During pregnancy, metabolic and hormonal changes are complex to support fetal growth, sometimes exposing the mother to several risk factors and leading to the development of metabolic syndrome (MetS). This work aims to identify certain causes associated with this syndrome in the Setif region through a case-control study conducted on a group of pregnant women comprising 30 cases of gestational diabetes with an average age of 30.47 ± 7.35 years, and 17 - confirmed cases of MetS with an average age of 30.35 ± 5.11 years, compared to the control group which included 79 healthy pregnant women with an average age of 28.90 ± 4.38 years. The variables were collected using a pre-established questionnaire and medical records, including socio-demographic factors, obstetric factors, and neonatal information. The results showed that obesity (body mass index ≥30), gestational hyperglycemia, and preeclampsia were the main factors associated with the onset of MetS. It was associated with an increase in the weight of newborns ≥2500 grams (64.7 vs 35.4%)
