Abstract
The complete blood count (CBC) is an essential laboratory test in clinical practice, and its
reliability depends on the proper control of pre-analytical factors. This study, conducted in
the Hemobiology Unit of the Sétif University Hospital Center (CHU of Sétif), aimed to
evaluate the impact of storage time and temperature on the stability of CBC parameters.
Blood samples were stored at room temperature (23°C) and at 4°C and analyzed at different
time intervals using the Celltac G+ hematology analyzer (Nihon Kohden). The results
demonstrated good stability of red blood cells, hemoglobin, and platelet counts. However,
several parameters, including mean corpuscular volume (MCV), red cell distribution width
(RDW), mean platelet volume (MPV), lymphocytes, basophils, and reticulocytes, showed
significant variations, particularly when samples were stored at room temperature. Storage
at 4°C provided better preservation of most hematological parameters for up to 48 hours.
These findings highlight the importance of appropriate sample storage conditions to ensure
the reliability of hematological results and improve laboratory quality management.
