Abstract

Clinical chemistry is one of the many specialties of laboratory medicine, involving the analysis of biological materials through the application of tests, methods and materials to obtain reliable results. The expiration dates set by product manufacturers are responsible for the incineration of large quantities of these products. In fact, many products can give reliable results after the advertised date. With this in mind, we launched a comparative study of assay results using reagents with different expiration dates (2019, 2020, 2022 and 2023), in order to investigate the stability of these reagents. The results were compared statistically using IBM® SPSS software. The results showed that there was a positive and statistically significant correlation between the results of the different reagents, confirmed by Pearson's correlation. Bland and Altman's graph showed excellent agreement, with almost no kissing and very close limits of agreement at 95%, confirmed by Passing Bablok regressions and patient classification showing agreement up to 95%. This consistency in results reinforces the reliability and stability of the reagents.
