Abstract

This work aims to investigate the oxidation by molecular oxygen of the two geometric isomers of stilbene involving Manganese (III) Schiff-base complexes as electro-catalysts. The ligands and their corresponding manganese (III) complexes were synthesized following literature procedures and characterized by different techniques such as Proton Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (1H NMR) spectroscopy , Infrared Spectroscopy (IR) ,Ultraviolet -visible spectroscopy(UV), X-ray diffraction (XRD), High-Performance Liquid Chromatography(HPLC) and Cyclic voltammetry(CV). Analysis of the reaction products revealed an unexpected complete inversion of the configuration E-stilbene during the oxygen-atom transfer process. This behavior, which is uncommon in the literature, requires further investigation considering factors such as the oxidation potentials of the stilbene isomers, the nature of the active oxidant, steric effects, axial ligand geometry, solvent effects, and substrate rearra ngement tendencies.
