Abstract
Cystic echinococcosis is a parasitic zoonosis caused by the cestode E. granulosus, which develops
in the viscera of herbivores in larval form, and in the intestine of dogs in adult form. The study was
carried out in two abattoirs )Sétif and El-Eulma) using involved retrospective, descriptive,
cross-sectional survey from September 2024 to April 2025. A total of 8938 ruminants )3343 cattle,
4380 sheep and 1215 goats) were slaughtered and inspected by abattoirs sampling. The prevalence
of hydatidosis varied very significantly )p < 0,001) by animal speciec, with dominance in cattle
)1,13%), sheep )0,31%) and goats )0%). The infection rate was influenced by distribution according
to organ, collection area and season )p < 0.001). In cattle, the highest prevalence was recorded in
the lungs )0,47%), while in sheep, prevalence was marked in both lungs and liver )0,09%) followed
by a prevalence of 0,02% in the lungs alone with no infection in the liver. No organ was parasitized
in goats. The highest rate was reported in the Eu-l-Eulma province )0,54%) compared with 0,45%
was enregistred in distinct of Sétif. In terms of season variation, the prevalence of cysts in cattle
was 0,65% in autumn, 0,25% in winter and 2.58% in spring. The prevalence of cysts in sheep was
0,25% in spring and 0,06 % in autumn, with no infection in winter. In contrast, the goats showed no
infection during each collection season.
