Abstract

The Kherzet Youcef region is located in the central part of northern Algeria. It is the northern limit of the Hodna Mountains. These belong to the autochthonous fore-country of the alpine chain of eastern Algeria. Kherzet Youcef polymetallic mineralization is hosted in lower Cretaceous Barremian sediments along the western flank of the NS-direction Kherzet Youcef fault, the main minerals being sulphides such as sphalerite ZnS, galena PbS, marcasite FeS₂, pyrite FeS₂, and gangue minerals are dolomite, calcite, barite, fluorite, anhydrite, the hydrothermal hypothesis is the most appropriate to explain the emplacement of the mineralization. The statistical and geostatistical analysis of the results of analysis of 871 geochemical prospecting samples made it possible to locate the geochemical anomalies using a certain number of software programs (EXCEL, STATISTICA, SURFER 10, VARIOWIN, GEOSTATISTICAL TOOL BOX). The mapping of the anomalies for each element has been carried out. The maps of the krigated value isoteners of Zn and Pb show three sectors A and B and C more potential.
