Abstract

This study was carried out, firstly, with the aim of estimating and mapping the zones susceptible to water surfaces infiltration into depth in the Mitidja-West region by using remote sensing and GIS techniques under softwares, namely ENVI and ArcGIS. Secondly, with the aim of evaluating the quality of the groundwater of the western Mitidja aquifer in 2008, 2011 and 2019. The result, of the infiltration estimated map obtained, indicates that the study area presents four classes including three levels of very low to medium susceptibility and a fourth which is considered to be the most susceptible to infiltration with a total surface area of 16.76% or 142.25 km2. From a hydrochemical point of view, the hydrochemical quality of the sampled water points records an average mineralization, probably explained by the geology and lithology around the study area. During the first campaign (2008), the nitrate concentration (117.5 mg/l) is much higher than the Algerian standard (50 mg/l). Because against in the second campaign, this concentration has become very low compared to the Algerian standard.
