Abstract
Touristification refers to the set of socio-economic and urban transformations brought about by the development of tourism in city centers. While traditionally concentrated in historic cores, this phenomenon now extends toward pericentral areas. This shift is driven by the saturation of city centers and the need to develop innovative tourism offers in less congested urban zones. It also reflects changing lifestyles and urban strategies aiming for sustainable development and revitalization of neglected neighborhoods. In contemporary cities, touristification acts as both an economic driver and a catalyst for urban transformation. It encourages new spatial organizations that blend historical heritage with modern infrastructures, enhancing the experience for both residents and visitors. Sétif illustrates this dynamic : while its historical center becomes denser due to concentrated tourism activities (notably around Ain Fouara and Park Mall), its southern pericentral area particularly near Bab Biskra remains underutilized despite its strategic location. This underuse is reinforced by the presence of obsolete infrastructure, such as the municipal park , which has become a form of urban wasteland .through an urban renewal strategy that includes touristification, it is possible to transform this area into an inclusive, multifunctional urban hub. This would not only support local economic development but also improve the city's cultural visibility and the quality of life for residents
