Abstract

Keratoconus is the most common corneal dystrophy. A significant drop in visual acuity linked to irregular astigmatism and myopia accompanies it. The treatment is initially optical but if the pathology evolves, we must move on to another therapeutic solution. For now, the best treatment to stop the evolution of keratoconus is cross-linking cxl. Corneal collagen cross-linking is a chemical reaction that aims to create covalent bonds between atoms or molecules. A photosensitive product (riboflavin) is deposited on the keratoconic cornea then an application of uva (long ultraviolet light) is performed on the cornea for several minutes. This intervention can modify several parameters such as densitometry, which is the quantitative measurement of corneal transparency, corneal thickness and radii of curvature. Cross-linking is a therapeutic advance that can effectively stabilize keratoconus. It offers radius of curvature flattening, corneal thickness swelling and good densitometry, which gives us sufficient transparency.
