Utilisation de la télédétection pour l’établissement d’une carte photo-géologique du Hoggar oriental et de sa couverture sédimentaire (Sud-Est algérien).

Abstract

The objective of this study is to perform photogeological mapping of the formations of the Eastern Hoggar (eastern-south Algeria). The methodology consists of realize processing on Landsat 8 OLI satellite photos of the region. This processing includes a combination of false color (FCC), band ratio (BR) with SWIR bands, and principal component analysis (PCA). A supervised classification was then performed, using the maximum likelihood classifier (MLC) algorithm. The lineaments extraction was performed by applying directional filters on the NIR band. The results of this study displayed the capacity of the treatments to discriminate the different geological formations of the shield, the sediment cover, and a good extraction of faults in the zone. The use of the results of the treatments allowed us to propose a new geological map of the Eastern Hoggar. The comparative approach between the new map produced and the set of existing maps made it possible to propose several corrections and to highlight new formations never reported before which require confirmation in the field
