Abstract

In Sétif, the 1006 Housing Complex exemplifies the spatial tensions inherent to New Urban Housing Zones (ZHUN). This work offers a critical reading of the urban fabric by examining the status of voids and the overlooked role of public spaces in the city's structure. Based on field surveys and SWOT analysis, the study identifies spatial discontinuities, weak functional mix, and the erosion of shared spaces.It outlines a strategic response that reclaims these urban voids as drivers of transformation, using urban architecture tools to reinforce spatial continuity and reestablish the public realm. This renewed perspective on empty spaces fosters new relationships between built form, activities, and open space, restoring clarity and coherence to the neighborhood.
