Étude géologique et géotechnique de quelques monuments de la cité antique de Sétifis à Sétif ( Tombeau de Scipion et Citadelle byzantine)

Abstract

This work started by describing the historical sites of the Sitifis's citadel and the tomb of Scipio. Subsequently, a description of the study area was carried out, with an analysis of its geological context. On the basis of obtained information, sampling campaign was carried out in the different geological facies of the Djemila thrust sheet, in order to determine the main stones that could offer building materials similar to those used in the studied historical monuments. The recovered samples were characterized through petrographic and chemical analyses, as well as physical-mechanical tests. This characterization concluded that the best geological level that can offer stones for the monument restoration is represented by Campanian limestone. After the identification of this stone's type, a degradation mapping is done in the so-called "Scipio tomb" was carried out. This mapping was reinforced by an analysis with the Leica P16 scanner.
