Abstract

Medical plants are still the reliable and inexhaustible source of natural bioactif substances and compounds known for their therapeutic properties. They are considered as a treatment of choice because of their low cost and lower toxicity. Our attention was focused on the Pistacia Lentiscus L, which is a very popular mediterranean plant, which is also used in Algeria, particularly in the region of Sétif where it was collected for this study. The plant was chosen for this study on the basis of their uses in local traditional medecine. The work presented contributes to the valorization of Pistacia Lentiscus L. The results have shown that Pistacia Lentiscus L is commonly used in traditional therapy. Indeed, the Pistacia Lentiscus oil is very used to treat burns (29,6%), then the cough and the flu (46,3%). Approximately, (60%) of the population also uses the leaves for the treatment of gastro-intestinal infections. From a general point of view, it is necessary to deepen our knowledge by conducting additional and in-depth studies to confirm the future prospects of this plant in the discovery of effective and safe natural resource drugs.
