Abstract

Introduction: In ALGÉRIA, the cosmetics market is constantly evolving, the massive use of this latter whatever their origin (local or imported) and the absence of a clear and explicit regulation on endocrine disruptors EDs in these products. is likely to be a big problem for the health of consumers. The main objective of this work is to pull the alarm bells on endocrine disruptors in cosmetics market in ALGÉRIA; by controlling the presence of EDs in their composition. Material and Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional observational study, to analyze the composition of cosmetic products marketed in ALGÉRIA and the presence of qualified ingredients endocrine disruptors, received at the toxicology service - CHU Saadna Abdennour - SETIF for analysis toxicological. Results: the cosmetic products analyzed were 49 of different types distributed over three categories, of local origin or import, with a statistically significant predominance for the aqueous forms. 63% of the products analyzed contain at least one ED. The daily use of a mixture of cosmetic products containing the same disturbing substance can contribute to an accumulation of effect which has a very negative impact on consumer’s health. A concern about the combination and concomitant exposure of proven or suspected endocrine disruptors whose mechanism of action is similar and the effect is synergistic as is the case with Paraben, Phenoxyethanol, Cyclomethicone PVP found in the same product which explains the cocktail effect. In ALGÉRIA, cosmetic products are not submitted to a strict regulation. Conclusion: a rigorous regulation is indispensable to face the anarchic use of disruptive substances to perform different function without considering the toxic risk. The creation of a cosmetovigilance center is of paramount necessity due its essential role which allows the declaration of undesirable effects by health professionals and consumers, as well as the collection of information relating to these effects with a preventive aim.
