Abstract
The mandible, with its physiological position, performs important functions in the masticatory system. Beyond its stable position, the mandible can be the site of various anomalies and disorders that disrupt stomathognathic balance. The observation of these anomalies, often less obvious than those of form, could be facilitated by a better understanding of the role of each organ in the system. This work contributes to differentiating between normality and pathology in oral functions and to establishing the effects of dysfunction on mandibular behavior. A semiological and biometric approach to the diagnosis of functional disorders, as well as a review of therapies ranging from prevention (at birth) to correction (at any age), complete the information. Various provisional, temporary, or definitive treatment methods are presented, avoiding the anatomization of a pathological form.
