Abstract

Colorectal cancer is a public health problem; tumor that affects the lining of the colon and rectum. This patholology is fatal but this mortality is reduced thanks to the appearance of new anti-cancer agents. The objectif of our study was to study the frequency of side effects related to IRINOTECAN; a potent anti-cancer agent, topoisomerase I inhibitor, and the evaluation of the factors influencing this toxicity, as well as the evaluation of the effectiveness of this treatment. The study was carried out using data collected from the files of patients treated at the level of oncology department of the CAC SETIF, during the period from December 28, 2021 to April 15, 2022. The results of our population are: incidence of diarrhea in 50% of patients and neutropenia in 19, 2% of patients. Statistical analysis showed that these side effects are independent ofIRINOTECAN dose and patient age, wich may explained by the impact of genetics in the pharmacology of IRINOTECAN. Thus 37,5% of patients showed tumor progression, and an equal percentage of31, 3% of patients showed tumor stubility and regression. In view of the incidence of side effects of IRINOTECAN and the negative impact on the quality of life of patients, it is necessary to apply pharmacogenetics in order to be able to limit and reduce the toxicity of this molecule and to aadminister personalized treatment ( dose effective adjusted).
