Abstract

The main contribution of this thesis is the application of the technique metaheuristic artificial bee colony (ABC) to solve the optimal power flow problem in the presence of FACTS devices and a renewable source (wind), Different objective functions were used including: optimal power flow with and without pollution, with Valve-Point Effect, minimizing the production cost of electricity taking into account the active power losses and deviations of voltages at bus load levels, For better exploitation of the network capacity, the FACTS devices are placed to maximize the power served to consumers, and improve the profile of any tensions within the security constraints, Wind sources have been inserted in order to study their impact on the optimal power flow, The application of the proposed approach on the standard IEEE30 bus system yields better results for different topologies compared to those published recently in the literature.
