Abstract

The world of mushrooms is both fascinating and complex, yet largely unknown. Studies on fungal macroflora in Algeria are limited, and data regarding toxic mushrooms are insufficient. Our study aims to investigate higher fungi present in the Setif region. Mycological surveys were conducted in this area to gather information on encountered fungal species. In the laboratory, species were identified based on their macroscopic and microscopic characteristics. Seventeen species of Basidiomycetes mushrooms were identified and cataloged. The most frequently observed order was Agaricales. Remarkable mycological diversity was observed at the visited site. The ecology and frequency of all recorded species were discussed. Two toxic mushrooms were identified, which bear similarities to common edible species, leading to potential confusion. Two species identified possess medicinal interest. Ultimately, it is crucial to consolidate and centralize all mycological inventory efforts on a national scale to create a national mucoromycete mapping.
