Profil épidémiologique et thérapeutique du cancer colorectal chez les patients âgés moins de 50 ans au niveau du service CAC-Sétif

Abstract

Colorectal cancer is the most common cancer of the digestive system. Despite advances in screening, diagnosis, and management, the morbidity and mortality associated with this disease continue to increase. The aim of this study is to determine the epidemiological and therapeutic profile of young patients (under 50 years old) diagnosed with colorectal cancer at the Anti-Cancer Center of Sétif. .This work is based on a retrospective study conducted over a 2-year period, from 2023 to 2024, involving 64 patients who were treated for colorectal cancer at the Sétif Anti-Cancer Center. The results show that colorectal cancer accounts for 9.08% of all cancers. It affected the left colon in 31% of cases, the rectum in 30%, and the transverse colon in 3%. The average age of the patients was 40.28 years. There was a female predominance, with a sex ratio of 1.3. The most common clinical symptom was abdominal pain, observed in 33% of cases. Histologically, Lieberkühnian adenocarcinoma was found in 98.4% of cases. The operability rate was 51.8%. Neoadjuvant treatment was administered to 44% of the patients, while 72% received adjuvant treatment.Colorectal cancers are still being diagnosed at late stages. Therefore, a screening program is essential to detect the disease earlier and improve patient outcomes.
