Effet de stress salin sur la germination de tournesol

Abstract

Algeria is one of the countries facing the problem of salinity, which causes arid and semi-arid areas, factors responsible for the degradation and decline in the productivity of agricultural lands. The objective of this study is to test the effect of salinity on the germination of sunflower seeds. which constitutes the main source of edible vegetable oil. The experimentation was conducted on four available varieties in Algeria (Italica, Savana, Bella, and Sirine), using different concentrations of NaCl: Control 0 mM/L, (50, 100, 150, and 200) mM/L. The statistical analysis (ANOVA) shows significant differences between the varieties and the germination parameters tested (germination rate, mean time, daily germination rate, germination kinetics, and salt stress index), which negatively affect the germination parameters. The results indicate that the Italica and Savana varieties are the most tolerant to salt stress; this is due to the combined effect of osmotic and toxic effects of salinity.
