Caractérisation géologique et géotechnique des vestiges du site antique de Djemila

Abstract

The ancient site of Djemila "Cuicul" is one of the most beautiful archaeological sites in Algeria which is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1982, we studied the geological and geotechnical characteristics of building materials, their properties and careers they brought, these materials are: Hard gray limestone with fine grains, greyish fine-grained bioclastic limestone, beige cavernous tuff, light gray-beige limestone (with rudist fragments and sparitic phenocrysts). And to know the factors of degradation such as: the actions of the nature, the man, the time and the laws of mechanics, whose effects appear on the site in the form of: crack, fracturing, exfoliation, chromatic alteration and biological colonization ...... etc. From "Arc Gis" it was possible to determine the spatial distribution of lithotypes and the phenomena of degradation on the ancient site of Djemila.
