Abstract

The modern city consists of three main urban zones: the city center, the periphery, and a transitional zone known as the "pericentral ring" located between these two types of spaces. This study focuses on the pericentral zone of Sétif, which extends along the historical axes at the entrance and exit of the city, occupying previously vacant spaces. A notable feature of this zone is the presence of large urban blocks, which play a key role in spatial organization. The objective of this intervention is to reduce the fragmentation of an isolated pericentral site, to open it up to the city, to reconcile it with its immediate context, and to transform it into a vibrant place, a place of exchange, communication, and relaxation, in order to create new cohesion between the various sectors that are completely disconnected from each other. This also includes the renovation of the large urban blocks to improve their integration and functionality within the urban fabric.
