Abstract

The use of medications during pregnancy can have implications for the health of both the mother and the fetus. Physiological changes that occur during pregnancy, such as alterations in drug distribution volume, hepatic metabolism, and renal elimination, can affect the efficacy and toxicity of medications. Certain medications can cross the placental barrier and directly impact the fetus, potentially leading to congenital malformations, growth delays, neurological disorders, and other health issues. It is important to consider these risks when prescribing or self-medicating during pregnancy. Pregnant women should be informed about safe medications to take and precautions to avoid adverse effects. The decision to use a medication during pregnancy should be made in collaboration with a healthcare professional, evaluating the potential benefits for the mother and the potential risks for the fetus.
