Conscience de la prescription et la vente des antibiotique auprès des médecines et pharmaciens des Sétif et BBA

Abstract

Antibiotic resistance is a major global problem, threatening treatment effectiveness and public health. This study aims to assess awareness of antibiotic prescription and sale among public sector general practitioners and pharmacists in the wilayas of Sétif and Bordj Bou Arreridj (BBA). Through a questionnaire administered to 118 physicians and 98 pharmacists, the results reveal partial knowledge of AMR mechanisms, underuse of microbiological tests, and frequent dispensing of antibiotics without a prescription. While the majority of professionals recognize the seriousness of the phenomenon, few are aware of official recommendations, and access to continuing education remains limited. Furthermore, self-medication, premature discontinuation of treatment, and abusive patient requests are exacerbating the situation. This work highlights the need to strengthen the training of healthcare professionals, establish better supervision of the sale of antibiotics, and raise public awareness about the rational use of these drugs. A concerted approach involving all stakeholders in the health system is essential to limit the spread of AMR
