Remèdes à base de plantes pour la prise en charge des troubles respiratoires de la communauté Sétifienne

Abstract

Respiratory diseases represent one of the most significant public health challenges today due to their widespread occurrence and direct impact on quality of life. Although chemical treatments such as corticosteroids and antibiotics are widely used, their long-term use may lead to adverse side effects. This has encouraged many people to turn to traditional medicine, particularly herbal remedies, as a safer and more natural alternative. In this context, and with the aim of documenting local knowledge related to the use of medicinal plants in treating respiratory illnesses, we conducted an ethnobotanical study in the Setif region. The study involved a group of herbal practitioners and was carried out over a period of four months (from February to May 2025).The study was based on a structured questionnaire, which revealed the continued practice of herbal medicine in the region and the variety of plants used specifically for treating respiratory disorders. In conclusion, the findings of this study highlight the richness of traditional knowledge in the Setif region regarding the medicinal use of plants for respiratory health. This underlines the importance of preserving and scientifically validating this heritage.
