Abstract

During history. Algeria was both common horizon countless cultures. the meeting place of civilizations, it in fact conceals a very important colonial heritage exhibits an important interchange of influences in a given period and represents a type of building which illustrates a significant period in history. This colonial heritage, representative of a cultural value, has become over time the vulnerable face irreversible change. Indeed, it continues to suffer the ravages of the past and a large section of this heritage is constantly deteriorating During the years of colonization of Algeria, Among the colonial legacy, there is the port heritage which considers itself a symbol of existence, identity and culture in all port and historic towns and a catalyst for development due to its advantages and potential, there remains a legacy negligible and excluded in our case study "the city of Algiers." That produces a rupture and a divide between the city and its historic entity (the port) without knowing the reasons were behind exclusion and marginalization. In our work, we tried to identify such marginal heritage and highlight its potential development site at urban and architectural scale, then find the perfect action and intervention on a sample operation this maritime heritage (ferry terminal) who suffers from marginalization and diversion instead of a multifunctional maritime icon that can become a pole of attraction and animation on the port and is a showcase that represents the image overall, the identity and culture of the country.
