Etude anatomique, Analyses phytochimiques et Activité antioxydante de la plante Hedera helix L.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate medicinal plants from Algeria and to explore their properties. Our focus was on Hedera helix L. which belongs to the Araliaceae family. It is a medicinal plant widely used in traditional phytotherapy for its expectorant, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial properties. The methanolic extract of the leaves was obtained by maceration. The total polyphenol content was determined using the Folin–Ciocalteu method, while the quantification of flavonoids, flavones, and flavanols was carried out using the aluminum chloride method. Tannins were identified using the vanillin method. The evaluation of the free radical scavenging power of the leaf methanolic extract through the in vitro DPPH assay showed significant activity. The phosphomolybdenum assay also demonstrated good total antioxidant capacity (TAC). The anatomical study of stem, leaf petiole and leaf of this plant showed that it has a typical structure of the dicotyledon plant.
