Abstract

This thesis focuses on the adaptive reuse of a synagogue into a fine arts museum in Algeria, addressing the intersection of heritage, cultural memory, and architectural transformation. Through the analysis of both traditional and colonial synagogues, as well as legal and theoretical frameworks, the study explores the challenges of preserving authenticity, transmitting memory, and adapting historical structures to contemporary needs. The case study of a colonial synagogue highlights the potential for revitalizing a symbolic building while ensuring its long-term preservation and integration into the urban context.
