Les Statines et Leurs Applications Thérapeutiques

Abstract

Statins are widely used drugs to lower cholesterol levels in the blood. They work mainly by blocking the enzyme HMG-CoA reductase, which reduces cholesterol production in the liver. Besides this main action, statins also have other helpful effects, such as anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, and immunomodulatory. Because of these properties, many studies have explored their possible use in different diseases, like heart diseases, cancers, brain diseases, and kidney problems. However, more research is still needed in some areas. In this work, we discussed different aspects of statins: their types, how they work, their side effects, and their potential medical uses.
