| dc.description.abstract | This course handbook focuses on Statistics 3, which introduces students to the fundamental concepts of inferential statistics and sampling theory. It is specifically designed for second-year undergraduate students in economics, business, and management sciences. The handbook begins with sampling theory, presenting the concepts of population, sample, statistical variables, sampling methods, and sampling errors. It explains both probability and non-probability sampling techniques and highlights the importance of representative samples in statistical research. The second major section deals with continuous probability distributions, especially the normal distribution and the standard normal distribution. Their mathematical properties and applications in probability calculations are thoroughly discussed. The handbook then introduces sampling distributions, including the sampling distributions of the sample mean, sample proportion, and sample variance, which form the theoretical basis of statistical inference. A substantial part is devoted to statistical estimation, covering both point estimation and confidence intervals for estimating unknown population parameters based on sample information. The final section focuses on hypothesis testing, presenting statistical decision-making procedures, significance levels, testing errors, and various tests related to population parameters. Elle a été conçue pour les étudiants de deuxième année du tronc commun en sciences économiques, commerciales et de gestion. L’ouvrage commence par la présentation des fondements de la théorie des échantillons, notamment la population statistique, l’échantillon, les méthodes d’échantillonnage ainsi que les différents types d’erreurs statistiques.
