Abstract

This research focuses on the formulation of a natural toothpaste based on Aloe vera gel, developed in the form of solid and soluble pearls for oral and gingival care. The aim is to create an eco-friendly and biological alternative to conventional toothpastes containing synthetic additives that may irritate the oral mucosa. Aloe vera gel, rich in polysaccharides, vitamins, minerals, and enzymes, exhibits antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, moisturizing, and healing properties, making it effective in preventing and treating gingival diseases, especially gingivitis. The toothpaste pearls were prepared using pure Aloe vera gel, calcium carbonate, sodium bicarbonate, hydrated silica, arabic gum, xylitol, and essential oils of peppermint and rosemary. After low-temperature drying (40–50°C), the final product showed a neutral pH (6.5–7.2), smooth texture, and rapid dissolution in saliva. Microbiological comparison with Signal® toothpaste revealed a clear inhibition zone of 34.4 mm against Staphylococcus aureus, indicating strong antibacterial activity. Therefore, this Aloe vera–based natural toothpaste represents an effective, stable, and eco-sustainable solution suitable for daily use to preserve gingival health and promote good oral hygiene.
