Abstract
the paracetamol is the most used analegistic remedy, over 130 marketed specialties in
Algeria contains this active ingredient, whether it's associated with other substances or not,
and destined to various voices of administration
the objectif of this study is evaluated the paracetamol consumption by the Algerian
citizens and their level of information as well as their level of involvement in pharmacists and
prescribers in their awareness raising role.
this is a collateral prospective survey conducted on a cohort of 285 consumers ,and in
another hand at 48 pharmacies as well as 52 potentiel paracetamole prescribers .The
informations were collected on the basis of two separate questionnaires intended for each of
the two parties
with an average of 37 sold bottles per day ,in more than 84% cases without prescription ,
the paracetamol (1g/500mg ) is the advised and the most often dispensed drug, the daily
average consumption in the event of pain crises has been estimated to 2,2g/j, divided to 2 or 3
doses , according to the consumers panel this dose is sufficient to reduce the intensity of the
pain (estimated on the scale of 0 to 10 ) from 5 to 3 of this 30 min period.
This study allowed us to note a slightly abusive use of paracetamol by the Algerian
consumers questioned, an excessive purchase rate of this drug without a prescription as well
as a real lack of information concerning the dangerousness of this product.
