Abstract
After the Industrial Revolution, urbanization profoundly altered our relationship with nature. By prioritizing density, profitability, and functionality, many urban neighborhoods have lost all connection with the natural environment. The Cité du 20 Août 1955 (commonly known as the "1000 Logements") in Sétif was selected as a case study for this research. Originally designed to address a housing crisis, the neighborhood now faces multiple challenges: social isolation, lack of green spaces, deteriorating living conditions, a sense of insecurity, poor public space appropriation, and limited social services. This thesis focuses on the biophilic regeneration of this neighborhood, based on the principle that reconnecting people with nature has positive effects on mental well-being, strengthens social bonds, and restores meaning to everyday living spaces. The project adopts a multidisciplinary approach, combining environmental psychology, sustainable urban planning, and biophilic architectural design. It aims to demonstrate that a gentle, nature-based transformation of urban environments can help create healthier, more humane, and more sustainable living conditions.
