Abstract

The excessive urban Density in the downtown area of Setif poses a major challenge in terms of quality of life. To overcome this issue, there is a need for a thoughtful approach to deconstruction, with a focus on reintroducing nature and promoting urban ecology. The demolition of the covered market has revealed the remarkable qualities of this space, transformed into a valuable public square, providing significant potential for the city. The questions raised primarily concern how to integrate void into the heart of urban density, while preserving the market's function, and how to reduce this density to improve quality of life. Proposed strategies include creating public squares, green spaces, and developing soft transportation modes. The use of underground space is also explored to meet functional needs while preserving the city's aesthetics on the surface. The hypotheses aim to breathe new life into the downtown area by creating attractive public spaces, improving living conditions through sustainable urban development, and promoting soft mobility to reduce pollution and encourage social interaction. The overall goal is to reinvent urban density for a more friendly city, while preserving historical heritage and integrating more nature into the urban environment.
